CSULB's Monastic Home Away from Home: The Jugendhaus of Goettweig Abbey in Austria

The Bob Cole Conservatory Choir not only performed in Goettweig Abbey on June 3rd, but they also spent June 3rd-4th at the former boy's dormitory here. Although there was no tv or internet, the group was able to enjoy games of billiards, ping-pong, and fusball!

Upon departure, Father Benjamin showed his appreciation for group by presenting each student with a medallion of St. Benedictine. As the bus drove away, a couple of students gave me their reflection of staying in Jugendhaus. Alex Jordan said that, "Staying in Goettweig Abbey was one of the most wonderful experiences. It was like the retreat you never knew you needed". Another student, Alyssa Maddock, brought up the fact that many of the kids were skeptical at first, due to the fact that it was dorm-style rooms and few showers, but that "...the past two days have been an incredibly unforgettable experience filled with laughter, fun, and games. This has definitely been the highlight of my trip!".

The group would like to thank Father Benjamin one last time for his generosity. In the words of Father Benjamin, "Danke, Danke, Danke!"
